Getting Ready For Kindergarten

Starting Kindergarten is an exciting time - for both children and parents. A positive learning experience at this early age will help give your child the skills and confidence to become an enthusiastic lifelong learner.

Wetaskiwin Regional Public schools kindergarten application packages are now available. If you have a child eligible to attend kindergarten this fall (5 years old on or before December 31, 2014) now is the time to pick up a Kindergarten application package available at the Division Office 5515-47A Avenue in Wetaskiwin or at the school. Complete the forms enclosed in the package and return them to the school on kindergarten registration night, March 26, 2014 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm or at the school office. Kindergarten students at Millet School attend full days Monday and Wednesday/ Tuesday and Thursday with Fridays added mid year.

2014 Student Conference Participation

Celebrate a 97% participation rate for student conferences.  That means that we only had 5 ‘no-shows’ or 149 out of 154 students with parents represented by a 1) conference, 2) a call that mutually agreed that a conference wasn’t necessary at this time, 3) a call to reschedule.

Possibilities for Before and After School Care

Millet School had a before and after school care program for several years but it could not be sustained because there were not enough families registered.  In the past two years since that program was shut down there have been a few parents express an interest in that type of quality child care in our community.  A few parents are expressing interest for the program to start up again.  Here is some information that will help prospective families considering their needs for this program:

  •  a before and after school care program could be started up again at Millet School as a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Wetaskiwin
  • there would have to be 1) at least 20 registered children, and 2) at least three staff hired and in place to begin the program
  • the program would be housed in Millet School
  • the cost would be about $350 for before AND after school care.  The provincial child care subsidy is up to $310 per month/per child for families who qualify.
  • to place your child's name on the list please contact:Sara-Dawn Taylor @ 780-352-4643 Ext 22 or by email at Sara-dawn@wetaskiwinyouth.ca
